A Letter To Our Supporters

Dear Supporters,

First, I want to thank each and every one of you that took the time to send messages, wall posts, and e-mails offering your support and well wishes. I am truly grateful for such an amazingly supportive network of people.

Today’s event was a HUGE success. Kudos to the man who drove all the way from Mt. Pleasant just to show his support. Kudos to the representatives from the Plymouth Congregational United Church of Christ who pledged the support of an entire congregation for future events. Kudos to the women who brought their children. Kudos to those who left work early or went to work late in support of this rally. Kudos to everyone who showed up, kissed, marched and pledged support for future events.

This is just the beginning. Through your continued support, Speak Equal and other LGBTQ organizations will be the platform that guides us all along this long road to equality. Set your sights on a statewide anti-discrimination law that includes protection against discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. Set your sights on partner benefits for all LGBTQ people in the state of Michigan. Set your sights on marriage equality in Michigan. Set your sights on statewide community health programs that target and focus on our LGBTQ youth, adults, and seniors.

Pledge today to get off of the couch, step outside of the box, grab the hands of our brothers and sisters, and move forward.

Let’s not stop until we are recognized as equal citizens under the law in the State of Michigan, and finally in this fine country we’ve all helped to build.
