Cause Commandos rally support from the gay community for rebuilding efforts in Haiti

A former Haitian resident, Montgomery made his mark on the community there by founding an AIDS orphanage. Following news of the devastating earthquake, Montgomery, and his partner Nate Guidas attempted to contact the orphanage without success. The couples raised more than $10,000 from family and friends and boarded a plane for the Dominican Republic.
The orphanage’s children weren’t hurt, he reported, but the local hospital had collapsed. Upon learning this, Montgomery says, he and Guidas sprung into action.
“We’re on a mission to help as many people as we can with medicine, food and tents for shelter,” Montgomery said in an e-mail statement. “We’re buying the supplies across the border in the Dominican Republic and running them by boat into the parts of Haiti that aid is still slow to get to. When a country is as poor as Haiti was before the quake, even the biggest relief effort is not enough. So we’re stepping up to the plate and hoping that the gay community can join us.”
