Happy Monday (vol. 29) — Progress, Stupidity, and the Fight For Equality
Happy Monday — By Speak Equal on September 14, 2009 at 3:25 amThis past week has seen a whole host of LGBT news across the globe! Iran just may see its first transsexual marriage, the completely unnecessary circus show surrounding Caster Semenya’s gender continues, and British Prime Minster Gordon Brown issued an apology for the treatment of an English codebreaker whom was driven to commit suicide following his discovery with an other man.
Coast to coast here in the U.S. the fight for marriage equality, adoption rights, and anti-discrimination ordinances rages on. The Human Rights Campaign along with several other national and local organizations continue to fight for marriage equality on two fronts: Maine and California. There are new hate crimes and discrimination cases reported with more frequency than there are laws to address them. However, as with all other movements, we continue to flow forward — slowly, but surely.
This week, we’ll hopefully be introducing a few news things at Speak Equal. If you haven’t already, check out Anne Price’s latest post, “Stupid,” a no-holds-barred opinion piece that gives the opposition a much-needed tongue lashing! Also, this Wednesday, look forward to the re-advent of Gamy Day! We don’t do our crosswords and games on Sundays like your average neighborhood paper — BORING! Instead, we bring a little something to break up your week right in the middle of your week! Also, be on the lookout for one, possibly two new writers, as well as an important announcement about The OutLOUD Project!
