It appears a long, drawn-out drama involving Dan Goldberg, a new father of twin sons born to a surrogate mother in India, is finally coming to an end.

Goldberg took a recent trip to India to bring his newborn twins home, but a law requiring paternity tests from Israeli parents to prove familial ties to children born in foreign countries proved to be a bigger challenge than originally thought.

Finally, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu got involved in the case, appealing to Israel’s Interior Ministry for a lax application of the law to this particular man’s case.

In an article with proudparenting.com, Goldberg stated:

“This is a state of contradictions,” Goldberg, a 42-year-old Jerusalem restaurateur, said via telephone in Mumbai. “I’m an Israeli citizen, I served in a combat unit during two intifadas and I still serve in the reserves. I’ve also volunteered with the police for years. But when I want to realize my right to be a parent, the state kicks me to the curb.”
