Servicemembers United mobilizes one-stop shop for information on DADT

WASHINGTON, DC – Servicemembers United, the nation’s largest organization of gay and lesbian troops and veterans and their allies, announced today the launch of two new websites that are poised to become valuable resources for the media, advocates, researchers, and the public as the debate over repealing the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law grows. The two websites, DADTArchive.org and FacesOfDADT.org, will serve as the new homes for Servicemembers United’s “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Digital Archive Project and the Faces of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” initiative respectively.

“We are thrilled to finally be able to launch these new initiatives and to help organize and push more of this information and more of these stories out into the public domain,” remarked Jon Martinez, a former Marine and Servicemembers United’s coordinator for the Faces of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” initiative.

Devin Boilard, who is spearheading the completion of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Digital Archive Project, added, “The volume of information now consolidated into these two sites is quite expansive, and it will only continue to grow. We were aiming to create a one-stop shop for information related to ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ and for the stories of the men and women who were impacted by this law, and I think we accomplished that.”

The “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” Digital Archive Project is now the largest and most comprehensive online collection of archival material related to the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” issue. It effectively consolidates vast amounts of scattered and dispersed information on the issue into one authoritative, comprehensive, and easy-to-navigate online hub.

The Faces of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” initiative is a single resource for a diverse array of profiles and stories from those who have been impacted by the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” law. The new website aims to help put a human face on the statistics associated with “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Servicemembers United will be accepting submissions for the site from veterans and anonymous active duty troops to add to the collection on an ongoing basis.
