President Barack Obama

Accountability.

It is the cornerstone of political action committees across the country. Today, AMERICAblog’s John Aravosis and Joe Sudbay have organized a boycott aimed at holding elected officials accountable for their actions and campaign promises. It’s called, the “Don’t Ask, Don’t Give” Boycott.

The boycott asks that the LGBT community pledge not to donate funds to the Democratic National Committee until President Obama fulfills his campaign promises:

  • The repeal of Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell
  • The repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA)
  • The enactment of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act

As written on the AMERICAblog’s website:

“LGBT Americans, our families, and our friends kept our promise at the ballot box, we now expect President Obama to keep his in the White House [...] This isn’t forever, the Democrats have it in their power to end this today — all it takes is choosing to keep their promise.”

If you’d like to take the pledge and/or learn more about the AMERICAblog and its causes, please visit their site: AMERICAblog.com

What do you think? Can the Democratic National Committee be motivated to address the concerns of the LGBT community? Are you happy with the President’s efforts, or do you think he could work harder to address issues of inequality within our country? Is this boycott justified? Is it counterproductive?
